Today my daughter asked me what day I was born. Good question. Normally, you would say alright. Every year your birthday shifts one day. However, today is the messing up day. Once every four years your birthday shifts two days as a result. And to make the mess complete the turn of the century again spoils easy calculations. In this digital age your digital calender will help out of course. However, I could have also talked to my mom and ask her what day it was. She would have told me instantly. She was at great pains I can tell you , and possibly she still is.
This brings me to an important recognition. We have entrusted all knowledge to the grey mass in our own skulls and beyond that even to the micro chips in our tablets. So, how come I wasn't thinking about my mother instantly? In modern life we lost out on relationship as a source of information. This detaches us from our past. If we don't take care it may even disconnect us from the future.
Let this day be remembered as a day to remember that once again human relationship outplayed modern digital open access data. Why bother about open access if the data sources that are really open to us are not even explored?
Mom, thank you for delivering me. Now it's up to me to deliver!
